Bargello Basics (2 day class)

person Pat Abbitt

The Journey

Bargello - the basics. Turning strips into rectangles and back into strips! Come learn to make this traditional needlework pattern into a quilt. Curves that aren’t curves and lots of movement. Class includes information on making your own variations.

Pre class preparation of strip sets will be needed. Some students will complete the quilt top but all will have a good start and learn the basic skills. The finished quilt will be about 58” X 40” and similar to the pictured quilt.

Fabric requirements:
Either #1 OR #2 (below) to make 4 Matching Sets of 10 2 ½” strips – so the same 10 fabrics in each set. The fabrics can be anything from a rainbow of colors and prints to a gradiant of a few colors. Choose whatever makes you happy! The pattern will move and dance across the quilt showing off your 10 fabrics.

1 - To cut your own strips, you will need 1/3 yard each of 10 different fabrics. Cut 4 strips 2 ½” wide across Width of Fabric (WoF) of each fabric.

or #2 - Two Jelly rolls will work if they have 2 strips of each fabric. That will make 4 strips of each fabric. You’ll have a lot left over for the next project.

Sewing supplies:
* Machine with ¼” foot
* Thread, pins, seam ripper, and any other general sewing supplies. Numbered pins are also helpful but don’t worry if you don’t have them.
* Rotary cutter, ruler and cutting mat
* Irons, pads, etc (optional - the studio has ironing stations)
